Kevin Marvelle is a Washington, DC-area singer songwriter with 3 CDs to his credit. Much of this episode deals with his extraordinary involvement with Woodstock 50 years ago.
Kevin and his brother journeyed to the festival and chronicled every band and performer who played there. A reproduction of his journal is now part of the massive CD and memorabilia collection from Rhino Records called “Back To The Garden”.
Marcia Johnson-Blanco is co-director for the Voting Rights Project of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and is heavily involved in Election Protection, the country’s largest non-partisan voter protection effort.
Even before there was evidence of Russian interference in US elections, there was (and continues to be) an ongoing effort to limit voting, especially in communities of color. From dissemination of false information about how and when to vote to creation of stringent “voter identification” laws, organized efforts to dilute voting persist.
Marcia and Barry discuss what can be done to guarantee the vitality of the principle of “one person, one vote”. They also examine how even the current Supreme Court has restricted the promise of the l965 Voting Rights Act. See www.lawyerscommittee.org and election Protection at at www.866ourvote.org.
